The Society was formed in 1951 when a group of laundry managers thought it would be a good idea to meet regularly to exchange information.
Sixty years later and our Society is a thriving, professional association, which has gained the respect of all those associated with the laundry / linen services / textile industry.
Links have been developed with organisations such as HEFMA, TSA major chemical, textile and machinery suppliers and the Society is frequently invited to comment on legislation through the Department of Health.
In the present climate of budgets restrictions, expertise in running monitoring and developing services can be difficult. Getting help to assess a service can be costly if the consultants used don’t understand your needs.
As Trusts have developed their strategies, laundries may have been closed, moved, gone into partnership or downsized, often with a loss of expertise in laundry production or monitoring.
Whether your laundry is in-house or contracted out, run by Facilities, Domestic, Portering or Laundry Manager, membership of the Society could benefit your organisation.
With access to a network of managers with a wealth of experience within the laundry industry, the network acts as a focal point for any relevant issues and may be used to assist with problems within the laundry industry, usually with just a simple email.
With the recent changes in legislation and the greater interest in compliance, budget control and service quality, now more than ever linen and facilities managers need as much support and access to information as they can.
As a member of the Society you will have access to a network of managers with a wealth of experience within the laundry industry. This network acts as a focal point for any relevant issues and may be used to assist with problems within the laundry industry, usually with just a simple email.
The Society’s website can be found at this address www.linenmanager.co.uk and has a member’s area containing useful reports and the minutes of meeting held round the various regions.
The Society also has a group on LinkedIn which contains general news and information stories along with any updates the Society sends out. The page can be found at www.linkedin.com/groups/5134431/
During April each year the Society holds its annual conference and training exhibition, supported by industry suppliers. The knowledgeable speakers and their presentations are always a good source of industry legislation ideas and innovation.
